The satisfaction with daily life(SDL)questionnaire is one set of constructs used to define subjective quality of life. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between SDL in patients with that in caregivers for the success of the return home.

Thirty-two patients with first occurrence stroke along with their primary support persons were evaluated at least 6 months after stroke and at least 3 months after discharge. The SDL questionnaire consisted of 7 items: (l)physical function ; (2)home life ; (3)social life including the community andcivic activities ; (4)work that is interesting, rewarding, and worthwhile ; cpersonal development and fulfillment ; (6)recreation; and(7)material well-being, including income and property with 5 graded-ordinal scales.

In the SDL questionnaire, the satisfaction of patients with physical function and home life was not associated between patients and caregivers.

Most caregivers were moderately satisfied, but some expressed a sense of burden; most accurately rated the SDL of their patients. Most patients were dissatisfied only with the work item ascompared with the caregivers.

These results suggest that caregivers should reduce the burden of home care by using social support resources and that patients should play some role in home life or work the return home is to succeed.
