Home-visit rehabilitation (HVR) offers several programs to improve the user's life function. The objective of this study was to clarify the reasons for beginning HVR and the daily life goals of HVR users. In order to reveal the expected effects of HVR and the programs offered, we administered open-ended questionnaires to users, which included questions on reasons for beginning HVR (hereafter ‘reasons’) and their daily life goals. Qualitative analysis was performed using data from the responses. 34 users' comments were analyzed, and fulfilled the inclusion criteria for this study. Reasons were comprised of 40 codes and grouped into 7 major categories as follows : [expectations for HVR] (15 codes);[poor physical condition and restrictions] (8);[advice from others] (5);[continuation of rehabilitation after discharge] (3);[motivated by the actual feeling of rehabilitation effects] (3);[restrictions on going out] (3);and [for self] (3). Users' daily life goals comprised 28 codes grouped into the following 8 major categories : [personally meaningful activities] (8);[improvements in mobility and walking] (7);[going out] (4);[independent life] (3);[hope for improvements or maintenance of daily life] (3);[belief in the effects of continued rehabilitation] (1);[cure and recovery of physical abilities] (1);and [hopes for life without pain] (1). The differences between reasons for using services and daily life goals were revealed. In terms of daily life goals, HVR providers should confirm that services are based on [personally meaningful activities], and focus on the [personally meaningful activities].
