The purpose of this study was to clarify the characteristics of patients with unconfirmed auditory processing disorder (APD) by evaluating their attention, memory, development, and mental aspects as well as their performance on the auditory processing test (APT). Four cases of unconfirmed APD in this study passed a basic hearing test but scored less than 109 points on the check sheet of hearing difficulties. The test battery included APT, clinical assessment for attention (CAT), the standard language-related examination of paired-associate learning (S-PA), Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test (ROCFT), nonword repetition subtest of Sophia Analysis of Language in Aphasia (SALA), Japanese editions of Autism-Spectrum Quotient (AQ), Conners' Adult ADHD Rating Scales (CAARSTM) and Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS). The 4 cases differed in their results of APT and how strongly their APT performance related to short-term memory, distributed/reverted attention, sustained attention, mental fatigue and hyperactivity/restlessness. Multifaceted evaluation revealed that there are individual differences in factors underlying APD symptoms.
