The purpose of this study was to compare subjective evaluations of four swallowing screening tests by speech-language-hearing therapists (SLHTs). Twenty-seven SLHTs evaluated the video records of three dysphagic cases using the four screening tests:Repeated Saliva Swallowing Test (RSST), Modified Water Swallowing Test (MWST), Standardized Swallowing Assessment (SSA) and The Toronto Bedside Swallowing Screening Test (TOR-BSST). Then Thurstone's paired comparison method was used to rank order the SLHT's preference for the tests based on pairwise comparisons. The mean Z scores of the paired comparison method were as follows:TOR-BSST, 0.820;SSA, 0.816;MWST, 0.082;and RSST, -1.786. The results indicated that a comprehensive evaluation method which includes water consumption test was preferred. In conclusion, TOR-BSST was selected as the most useful swallowing screening test.
