Message from the Co-Host of Asia-Pacific Occupational Therapy Congress
According to the World Federation of Occupational Therapists(WFOT)2022 Human Resource report, there are 633,339 occupational therapists globally, with about 195,000 located in the Asia-Pacific(AP)region, representing 30% of the global total. As of May 2024, the WFOT lists 111 member organizations and 1,150 educational programs worldwide, with the AP region accounting for 18 member organizations and approximately 340 educational programs. This data indicates that our region comprises 16% of WFOT's member organizations but nearly 30% of both its occupational therapists and educational programs. The significant number of therapists and educational programs highlights our pivotal roles in advancing both occupational therapy education and practices in the global occupational therapy community.
With this solid foundation in both educational and clinical domains, we extend our best wishes to all participants and the host member organization, the Japanese Association of Occupational Therapists. May this Congress exemplify the Asia-Pacific's commitment to innovation and leadership, advancing the standards of practice and education in the global occupational therapy community.
