A previous history of abdominal surgery or peritonitis is a possible contraindication for laparoscopic surgery. Ultrasonic evaluations were carried out in 332 cases to find out whether previous surgery or peritonitis might have resulted in abdominal wall adhesions. We classified the severity of the adhesion based on movement (distance and direction) of intraperitoneal organs during intentional abdominal breathing with echogenecity of the corresponding peritoneum. Comparison of the pre-operative and operative results on the severity of adhesion revealed statistically significant correlation (p<0.0001).
