The purpose of this paper is to investigate the short term results of laparoscopic trans-abdominal preperitoneal repair (TAPP) for recurrent inguinal hernias. Methods : We analyzed retrospectively our experience with275patients (318hernias) who underwent surgery for inguinal hernia during2007to2010. Results : In this study, 166patients (201hernias) were managed using the laparoscopic trans-abdominal preperitoneal repair. Fourteen patients (15hernias) had recurrent hernias. Open mesh repair (OMR) was performed on 109patients (117hernias). Comparing the primary hernias versus the recurrent hernias within the TAPP group, there was no significant difference other than the operating time. Regarding the recurrent hernias, there were no significant differences between TAPP group and OMR group. Conclusion : Laparoscopic trans-abdominal preperitoneal repair (TAPP) is considered as a useful procedure for recurrent inguinal hernias.
