This study experimentally examined the usefulness of vital information, which was obtained from the chaos analysis of pulse waves that were measured by the finger photoplethysmograph, for grasping the clients' health conditions in the course of telenursing. The examination used daily fatigue as the index of evaluation.

The experiment was conducted on five healthy volunteer adult subjects. Twice, around 9:00 a.m. before they got to work and around 6:00 p.m. when their work was over, the experiment measured their body temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure, respiration rate, investigated subjective symptom of their fatigue, and measured their pulse wave by the finger photoplethysmograph. It then conducted the chaos analysis. The experiment also observed the activities of their autonomic nervous activity by analyzing the R-R interval variability based on the electrocardiograms taken at the time of the measurement.

The results have indicated that the changes in size, shape and track's stability of chaos attractors that were expressed by the chaos analysis showed a tendency similar to those of the activities of autonomic nervous activity. The results have also hinted that the attractors possibly possess information particular to themselves. These results thus indicate that the chaos analysis of fingertip's pulse wave may offer information on factors different from the contents described in vital signs graph sheets used at hospitals.
