The DNA analysis of protein S gene (PROS1) is very useful for definite diagnosis of the hereditary protein S deficiency. Current method to identify protein S gene abnormalities is direct sequencing of the PROS1. Over 230 mutations of PROS1 gene in the patients with protein S deficiency are reported in the world, however, we could not identify the causitive PROS1 mutation in the half of cases. To resolve this problem, new method named as "MLPA" was developed. The MLPA method may be useful for to detect deletion of DNA.
