  • Look Inside

The pharyngogastric anastomosis method was used in 7 cases after radical operation of cancer of the hypopharynx and cervical esophagus. A newly deviced vocal rehabilitation method, tracheo-gastric (T-G) shunt, was applied in 2 out of 7 patients. The pharyngogastric anastomosis was worth-while because of the curability and safety of this method. It was found that by T-G shunt the patients could produce their new voice without any trouble of reflux. However, vibration of the elevated stomach made clearness of speech worse than the tracheo-esophageal method. Despite of a few modifications of the method, the problems on the clearness of speech remained to be solved in the future.
