  • Look Inside

Since the development of ENG the direction of the ocular movement of pressure nystagmus caused by fistula formation is more acurately recorded, and reports on atypical reactions have been on the increase. The authors report 14 ears with fistulous symptoms in 12 patients that resulted from chronic suppurative otitis media. The results are as follow:

Typical reaction in 3 ears, (21%).

Approximately typical reaction in 4 ears, (29%).

Atypical reaction in 7 ears, (50%).

These results are suggestive that the pressure nystagmus in fistula formation is not always clinically constant. Cosequently, the differentiation between the typical and the atypical should be defined more accurately.
