In order to evaluate the prognosis of vertigo, 45 cases of vertigo, who had been thoroughly examined from neurotological point of view, were reexamined.

These cases comprised of 9 cases of vertigo of central origin, excluding those suffering from brain tumors or spinocerebellar degeneration, 27 cases of peripheral origin and 9 others.

At the initial examination it was revealed that 41 cases out of 45 (91.1%) complained of vertigo and 36 cases were found to be affected with some sort of nystagmus (80%).

At the reexamination only 8 cases (17.8%) complained of vertigo while 25 cases that of nystagmus (55.6%).

The 6 cases who showed a coarse vertical positioning nystagmus were treated with disappearance of nystagmus in 1 case, diminished in 2 cases and unchanged in 3 cases.

The hearing losses and tinnitus of these case mostly remained unchanged or eventually became even worse.
