  • Look Inside

Cephalosporin is an antibiotic composed of cepahlothin (CET) and cephaloridinc (CER). Antibacterial property of CET appears to be at 0.2-2.5mcg/ml concentration while, that of CER appears to be 0.05-2.5mcg/ml.

Following intramuscular injection of 5g of each agent blood concentration of the drug with its peak being at the end of 30 minutes was 8mcg/ml for CET and 10.2mcg/ml for CER.

CET was used in 24 cases; it was highly effective in 18 cases, moderately effective in 3 cases and somewhat so in 3 cases. CER was used in 40 cases; it was highly effective in 30 cases and moderately so in 7 cases. Towards treatment of diphtheria the agent proved to be specifically effective.

There was no significant difference in the effectivity of the two agent. With administration of CET the patients complained of a sharp pain.
