  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Following Akaike's sinoplastic operation for establishment of unhindered drainage passageway in 38 cases, the patients were observed for the period of 18 months on their state of nasal discharge. In 17 cases (44%) the nasal discharge disappeared within 6 months after the operation and in 16 cases (42.1%) it disappeared within 1 year. In 5 cases the discharge continued for more than 1 year in duration but, in 2 cases of which the recovery was seen at the end of 18 months while the remaining 3 required over 2 years. From these experiences the author concluded that, as long as an unhindered passageway is established by sinoplastic operation, there is a possibilty of the sinusitis being recovered even though 2 or 3 years may be required for the process.
