Today numbers of chemotherapeutic agents are used for cancer therapy, but have common defect, that is, they are not only toxic to cancer cells, but also to adjacent normal tissue cells. Therefore it is important to increase the intensity of the regional effect and decrease systemic toxic effects. By intra-arterial administration of these agent, a higher drug concentration could be obtained in the tumor than in the remaider of the body. We have managed 22 patients of the head and neck tumors undergoing intra-arterial infusion of Endoxan or Toyomycin. The procedure consisted of the retrograde insertion of a polyethylene tube through the superficial temoral artery or facial artery. The drug was injected continuosly through the catheter. The results obtained show that six patients received significant regression and in twelve the tumor regressed partially. Toyomycin is more effective than Endoxan in referrence to intra-arterial infusion. We conclude that intra-arterial infusion with Toyomycin is an excellent procedure for malignant disease of the head and neck.
