　耳鼻咽喉科領域における悪性腫瘍は常に汚染されやすく，感染を伴うことが多いので，浮腫や炎症性腫脹が起り，殊に気道の場合には恐るべき結果を来しやすい。

　我々は咽頭癌や喉頭癌の患者が，甚しい疼痛や苦痛に悩まされ，呼吸困難を来し，迅速に気管切開をしなければならない例に遭遇している。
