Tonillectomies were performed on 96 child-ren the ihhabitants of a remote country vil-lage as a mass operation.

These children showed, by a follow-up exa-mination conducted 1 year thereafter, a mar-ked improvement in various existing ENT affections as well as scholastic a tainment with a better ability for mental concentra-tion.

Indications for tonsillectomy were shown to be about 20 to 30% of the total number of children examined in the High School age group. The tonsillar affections found in the affected group will not result in spontaneous abatement in a reasonable short period of time.

With a careful examination for indications and operative procedures a mass operation in this way is by no means contraindicated.
