Sato and Associates state that, as an aftereffect following removal of straw-colored transudate from the middle ear cavity, the tympanic membrane may show bluish discoloration. In this condition the hearing difficulties are divided into two types, one resembling that due to chronic otitis media, and the other, to that of tubal obstruction. The transudate is found to be rich in plasma cells; the ear eventually proceeds to recovery. Eight cases of this nature are reported.
