Kitamura employs, in order to effect removal of larynx in a single sweeping mass, in a case of laryngeal cancer that infiltate and involve the root of the tongue, that include in it the muscles and lymphatics together, a T-shaped cervical incision. The gap thus created by the removal is bound by sublingual glands as its lateral wall and the skin flaps are sutured directly to the mucous membrane on the posterior surface of the tracheal ring. In this way one stage closure of the operative field is accomplished without subsequent disturbances with the act of swallowing. The speech is reestablished by aid of Tapia whistle.
