YOSHIDA attempts a study of speech enun-ciation among children with 1,422 of them who are in the primary grades ranging from the first to sixth. Among this number there were only two children who were found affected with nasal voice because of nasal blockage but, there were 12 (0.8 percent) affected with hoarseness. And the occurrence of which was predominently am-ong boys, 6.5: 1, as compared to girls; the grea-test number among those who belonged to the third and fourth grades. Stuttering was found in 0.4 percent of the total number, in proportion of 3: 1, as amomg boys as of girls. Speech dif-ficulty occurred only among the boys who num-bered 0.5 percent of the total; the difficulty bei-ng in enunciation of 'sa' column of 'katakana' table, the number of these aggregating to 71 per-cent of those who were thus, handicapped. There were six children affected with medium degree hearing loss and 5 of these found difficulty in prope rarticulation of 'sa' column.
