SUZUKI and associates made studies of the movements of the eyes and the direction in which they moved by placing a person in a ro-om absolutely darkened and by turning the he-ad either, left or right passively. They found that the rate of movement of the eyes to the same side is markedly diminished when the head is turned passively as compared to that when it is turned actively. But, when the rate of movement to the same side was compared to movement to the opposite side, no difference was noted. The authors concluded that the ph-enomenon which is assumed to produce compe-nsatory eye movements when the head is turned around a given perpendicular axis could not be accepted as an established fact.
