Fujita says that her case of foreign body of esophagus, a moderate sized solid fish-bone, required an operation by external approach be-cause the offending body had penetrated through the wall of that organ and no longer discerna-ble by esophagoscopy. Ten days after having swollowed a fish (tai) bone the patient, a man 38 years old, was affected with a total inability of deglutition due to severe pain in the neck. Esophagoscopic examination revealed a large abcess in the upper portion of the esophagus posteriorly and well to the left side of the cer-vical spine. The abcess was opened and drained but the particular bone was not found. Ente-ring the neck by external approach with an in-cision placed at the anterior border of left ster-nocleidomastoid muscle the abcess cavity was reached at the level of the cricoid cartilage when, a bone 2 cm. in length was found well embedded in connective tissue network.
