Homma describes a spinal puncture needle which is hnown as Daito-Homma suboccipital spinal punctnre needle that may be used for large volume "spinal pumping". The instrument measures 13.5cm. in length and 1.5mm. in it cross section diameter. The slanting surface for the cutting Point of the needle forms 20 degree with the shaft; and in its application for the purpose the patient should be placed on right lateral recumbent position while the slanting surface of the needle should face the vertex of patient's skull. Insertable portion of the instrument is 6cm. in length, at the end of which is found an adjustable indicator-stopper attachment. The base is constructed in similarity to Yamada-Sata spinal puncture needles, and provided with an outlet which allows measurement of spinal fluid prersure as well as removal of the fluid. A 20 cc. syringe is attachable to it for large volume" spinal pumping" With the realization of this needle, the author states, "spinal pumping" may now be administered, for the first time, in safety and with adequacy.
