Tesuka reports a case of cholesteatomatous otitis media, in which the disease of long stan-ding character, that remained dormant for num-ber of years without proper care, suddenly took a turn of course to involve various cranial bo-nes, such as temporal, occipital, parietal and other basal bones of the skull, and to cause thrombosis of sigmoid sinus with formation of cholesteatomatous pearls within that cavity. These involvements of bones were clearly osteitis and endosttitis; but, in such circemstances the customary diagnosis in the field of otolaryngology would be merely, mastoiditis, sigmoid sinus thrombosis and general septicemia without refe-rence to ostetitis and endostitis in the least. In order to grasp the facts in the situation and to facilitate the treatment thereof, which would include that of general surgery, the author em-phasizes the need of mentioning osteitis and endostitis along with the diagnosis which is cu-stomary in use.
