  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

This presentation is a study of five patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) who developed subdural hematomas following shunt procedures.

The high rate of this complication of shunting operation (5 of 28 cases, 17.9%) gives us serious concern.

The average ages of 28 patients who were operated on for NPH are 52.4 years and that of 5 patients with subdural hematoma is 65.2 years, and 4 of these patients are between 68 years and 84 years. The causes of NPH are subarachnoid hemorrhage in three cases and unknown causes in two.
