The twist drill technique is simple, quick and safe to perform. We have used this technique in 200 cases of conray ventriculography, and found it a very useful procedure. The procedure is as follows :

The patient is placed in the supine position with the head on a skull table. A small area of the scalp, about 3 cm in diameter, is shaved on the right frontal region around the site of puncture, which is 7 cm superior to the nasion and 2.5 cm lateral to the midline. After infiltrating the area with 0.5% Xylocaine containing epinephrine, a small stab wound (less than 0.5cm in length) is made through the scalp and periosteum.
