  • Look Inside

Hypothalamic hormone receptors including those to GHRH, CRH, TRH, GnRH, SRIF, dopamine, VIP/PACAP, and PrRP are expressed in normal adenohypohysis. All these belong to the family of G-protein coupled receptor with 7 time-transmembrane stracture and most have been shown to have a few subtypes. Differences between pituitary adenomas and normal adenohypohysis in the mode of hypothalamic hormone receptor expression and in the effects of hypothalamic hormone to the target cells may contribute to the various biochemical charaters in pituitary adenomas such as the response to hypothalamic hormone overdose tests and the effects of agonist or analog therapy. Gene mutations of the molecules of hypothalamic hormone receptors and the subsequent transduction system as well as the hypothalamic hormones produced by adenoma itself may play a role to the tumorigenesis of pituitary adenomas.
