　老年者の健康が大きな問題になるなかでAlzheimer病が注目され，Meynert核のつよい変化が知られてから，関心がいっそう高まっている。

　本稿の目的はAlzheimer型老年痴呆の集団レベルの知見を概観し，問題点をさぐることである。なお，本症の疫学の総説は若干，刊行されている^1〜4）。疫学は疾患の集団内発生の態様と，発生に影響する要因を知り，疾患の成立機序の解明，診療，予防に役立てる学問である。

Abstract

Biometrical information of the senile dementia of the Alzheimer type (SDAT) was extensively reviewed. Prevalence rate of the severe organic dementia in the aged population over 65 ranged 0.6~5.0% in 17 cross-sectional surveys, averaging3%. Since about 65% of the demented aged are due to SDAT, its prevalence rate appeared about 2%. A few longitudinal surveys disclosed similar rates. Age-specific incidence rate indicated a monotonously rising trend with age. Familial aggregation is obvious but no sinlge-gene genetic mechanism explained the patterns.
