Abstract

In 1970s, receptors, which had existed as a concept since the beginning of this century, revealed themselves as being not merely a useful concept but as biochemical and pharmacological entities in the research fields of neurotransmitters and hormones. Since approximate estimates of brain concentrations of antiepileptic drugs (AED) can be formed by monitoring the blood levels of these drugs, our attention must now be focused on pharmacodynamic study which involves the examination of drug effects in the brain through the interaction of these drugs with their receptors.
