  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The existence of various neuropeptides have recently been revealed in the autonomic nervous system by means of immunohistochemistry. The occurrence of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP), enkephalin (ENK), substance P (SP), cholecystokinin (CCK), somatostatin (SRIF) and avian pancreatic polypeptide (APP) have been shown to be particularly relevant in the prevertebral (celiac, superior and inferior mesenteric) ganglia of guinea pigs and cats.
