　抗痙縮剤は痙縮（spasticity）の軽減を目的として使用される薬剤で，薬理学的には筋弛緩剤（muscle relaxants）に属するものである。

　1946年，Bergerらによりmephenesinが合成され，以後，methocarbamol,carisoprodol,phenprobamate，chlorzoxazone,chlormezanone,styramate,pridinolmethane sulfonateなどの薬剤が中枢性筋弛緩剤として開発され使用されてきた。しかし，これらの薬剤は臨床上，肩こり，腰背痛，頸腕症候群などの一時的な反射性の筋トーヌス異常には多少の効果はあっても，痙縮にはほとんど効果はなく，アメリカでは"unestablisheddrugs"として取り扱われている。

Abstract

Six antispasticity drugs (diazepam, tolperisone hydrochloride, E-0646, HQ-495, baclofen and dantrolen sodium) are available in Japan. No drug is capable of achieving a substantial, sustained decrease in spasticity without adverse reactions, but limited benefit can often be obtained. Among those drugs, baclofen and dantrolene sodium are more effective therapeutic agents for spasticity.
