 It has been known that receptor potential may occur at the non-myelinatcd terminals in the frog muscle spindle and the receptor currents may be integrated into the branching node of the myelinatcd axon at which impulses may initiate. The hypothesis that the receptor potential may be caused by the inward flow of sodium ions in supported by recent works on mammalian muscle spindles and crustacean stretch receptors.
