Pedigree Studies of Idiopathicand Symptomatic Epilepsies
Epilepsy was known as a familial disease since ancient Greek days. In 1757 King Friedrich of Sweden proclaimed a law prohibiting the marriage of epileptics, and the law had been effective until enactment ofnew sterilization law in 1934.
After Mendel's law was rediscovered and the foundation of modern genetics was laid in 1900, socalledidiopathic epilepsy or epilepsy without brain damagehas been a subject of pedigree studies.
