  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

In 1970 Segarra discribed the syndrome of the mesencephalic artery stating that the akinetic mutism of mesencephalic origin is due to the occlusion of the posterior thalamo-subthalamic paramedian arteries.

The term "syndromes of arteries into the posterior perforating substance" was proposed by Goto in 1971 to describe 2 patients who showed clinically mesencephalic syndrome and pathologically the softening over the areas disturbed by these arteries.
