The original concept of decerebration in animal experiment, at first described by Sherrington, is characterized by continuous and strong extensor rigidity with exaggerated symmetrical and asymmetrical tonic neck reflexes, loss of reciprocal innervation and loss of certain autonomic functions after complete section of the neuraxis at midbrain intercollicular level.
