外眼筋の発生について

Development of the extrinsic ocular muscles

　外眼筋の発生を考える時，われわれの興味をひく点は決して少なくない。しかしこの研究上初期の段階では筋細胞自体の発生について考えられたものではなかった。すなわち，脳神経の前半で比較的大きい割合を占める眼組織全般への神経支配に関する研究に付随してであったことは確かである。これは骨格筋についての研究が最初の段階で，ともに19世紀中期であるが，筋細胞の分裂の方法とその横紋構造についてであったことを考えると，おのずから両筋細胞の特性の違いをうかがうことができる。したがって，外眼筋の発生過程で重要な点は，筋細胞とそれを支配する運動神経もしくは知覚神経の発生時期とその発達途上で両者がいつ連絡を持つか，さらにその分化の仕方が問題になると思われる。

　次に興味のある点として外眼筋は全身の他骨格筋の中で，とくにこの場合ヒトと限定しても，組織学的，生理学的にかなり異なる性質を持つ少なくとも二つ以上のfiber typeよりなっている数少ない骨格筋の一つであることから，それに相応する組織学的構造の違いとその発生過程を追求することにより，外眼筋の特性を知るという，ただ単に基礎的知識として興味があるだけでなく，臨床的に病態の解明に寄与することができるといえよう。

The developmental processes of the extrinsic ocular muscles has been investigated in the midtwen-tieth century. Most observations, the early stages in particular, have been made on the nerve tissue which run into each extrinsic ocular muscles.

The earliest sign of the differentiation of the extrinsic ocular muscles of human embryo is a pair of premandibular condensations of mesodermal cells derived from the precordal plate. These con-densations of the earch muscles appear between at the foetus stage 6 to 10 mm.
