On November 9, 1963, four hundred and fifty-eight coalminers died at once due to acute carbon monoxide poisoning and six hundred and sixty-five suffered from the poisoning on the occasion of Mitsui-Miike coal mine explosion at Omuta City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan.

A patient, 54-year-old coalminer, had survived after twelve hours' unconsciousness. After that, he showed decreased spontaneity, amnesia, disorien-tation and mild rigidity of extremities. On March 14, 1967, he died of complicated pulmonary carcinoma.
