Synaptic plasticity has been considered as the cellular mechanism for memory and learning for over thirty years, and tremendous amount of efforts have been made to understand the underlying mechanisms. It has been shown that [Ca2+]i elevation is necessary to induce synaptic plasticity, that protein phosphorylation is involved, that protein synthesis is involved in the late phase of synaptic plasticity.
