  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

In recent years remarkable progress has been made in studies of neurotrophic factors (NTFs). Evidence is now accumulating that various NTFs are involved in processes of peripheral nerve regeneration and brain development. Furthermore, a role of NTFs for communication between immune and nervous systems has become of major interest. We focus on these topics in this article. Some NTFs such as neurotrophins including nerve growth factor (NGF), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) are shown to be accumulated at the distal side of injury in the peripheral nerves.
