  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

To clarify and understand the initiation and propagation mechanism of generalized seizures in humans, experimental models are essential. Such models can be designed to mimic some forms of human epilepsy closely, but no animal model can mimic all the features of any human epilepsy. At most, we can extrapolate findings derived from models to some limited aspects of human epilepsy.

In general, experimental models of epilepsy can be divided into two categories. One is genetic models, including mouse, rat, chicken, dog, and baboon. Most of these genetic generalized seizure models are reflex seizures.
