  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

There are two types of adrenal steroid receptors in the mammalian CNS type I and type II. Type I receptor, also called mineralocorticoid receptor (MR), has high affinity for corticosterone/cortisol, while aldosterone is a competitive agonist. These receptors are localized mainly in the dentate gyrus granule cells and pyramidal cells of CA1 and CA2 in the hippocampus and to a lesser extent in thalamus, brain stem, cerebellum and spinal cord.
