大脳皮質の三叉神経運動系への制御様式

The role of the cerebral cortex in the control of mastication and voluntary jaw movements.

はじめに

　大脳皮質で三叉神経運動系に強く関与している領域は二つある。一つは運動野の顔面領域であり，もう一つは皮質咀嚼野である。運動野の顔面領域は，運動野の他の領域と同様に定義されており，微弱な電流刺激により顔面口腔領域に筋収縮を起こす皮質部位である。皮質咀嚼野は，上記運動野とは異なり連続電気刺激によりリズミカルな顎の開閉運動と，それに協調した舌運動，そして唾液の分泌が伴う行動を誘発する領域と機能的に定義されている。誘発されたこの運動が，単なる顎の開閉運動だけではなく，舌の運動と唾液の分泌が伴う複合的な運動であり実際の咀嚼運動にきわめてよく似た運動である点が，皮質咀嚼野と呼ばれる所以である。

The cerebral cortex exerts strong effects on the trigeminal motor system from the face region of the motor area and cortical masticatory area. The former is defined as the area where microstimulation induces twitch contraction of facial, jaw and tongue muscles, while the latter as the area where re-petitive electrical stimulation induces coordinated rhythmical jaw and tongue movements resembling masticatory movements.

The roles of the cerebral cortex in the control of jaw movements have been studied by the use of stimulation, single neuron recording, ablation and cooling.
