  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

It has been revealed that excitatory amino acid (EAA) receptors play an important role in neuronal plasticity, epileptogenesis, schizophrenia, ischemia and neurodegenerative disorders. EAA receptors have been thus far classified into ionotropic receptors (NMDA, AMPA and kainate) and metabotropic receptors. However, a rapid progress has been made on cloning of EAA receptor subunits, and a diversity of EAA receptors in the brain is now suggested. This brief review summarizes the recent reports on the role of EAA receptors in neuropsychiatric disorders.
