　新鮮前立腺肥大症患者14名（平均年齢74±7歳）に対して，経尿道的バルーン拡張術を19回行い，治療効果を検討した．効果判定は，術後1週，1ヵ月，3〜6ヵ月，12ヵ月前後の尿流量測定，残尿，自覚症状などから総合的に行った．術後1ヵ月では93％に改善が見られたが，1年後には50％に症状の再燃を見た．症状の再燃した5例のうち2例に再度拡張術を行い症状は改善した．拡張術の治療効果の機序についてはまだ明らかではないが，前立腺被膜の強制的拡張によると考えている．拡張術は，薬物療法と手術療法の中間的治療法であり，症例を選択するなら非観血的治療法として有効な方法であると考えられた．

We performed transurethral balloon dilatation as the treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia. 14 men aged 60-84 years were treated under topical or spinal anesthesia, using 75 Fr dilating balloon for 15 min with high pressure. Uroflowmetry, voiding cystourethrography, cystometry, residual urines and urinary symptoms were evaluated prior to and following the procedure at 1 month, 3-6 months and 12 months. At 1 month 93% patients showed improvement in uroflowmetry with improved clinical symptoms, but at 1 year effective rate decreased to 50%.
