  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The authors carried out renal vein catheterization applying a thermister catheter and measured the renal venous blood flow by local thermodilution method. Plasma concentrations of STS and PAH were simultaneously determined in the renal vein and the aorta in order to calculate the split renal glomerular filtration rate and tubular excretory mass. This method offered practical usefulness in the investigation of glomerular and tubular functions, especially of the surgically treatable renal lesions and the state of functional hypertrophy of the contralateral kidney.

The technique was applied to the study of renal metabolism.
