A rice-sized, grayish-white papule on the helix of the right earlobe in a 4-year-old boy had been found one week before. It was followed by the red, tender swelling of the skin around it.
At his first visit, a daizu-sized parasite was found, and the lesion was excised with the surrounding skin. The parasite was identified as an adult, female tick which belongs to Ixodes persulcatus schulze
The boy used to play in the copse in the suburb of Sendai City, where he seemed to have been attacked.
