  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A 2-year-and-3-month-old boy with the histologically confirmed eosinophilic granuloma of the bone in the left temporal bone showed many papules, up to azuki-sized, disseminatedly.

Histologic specimen of the eruption showed the dense infiltration of the large histiocytic cells in the papillary and subpapillary layer. These cells were observed by electron microscope. The results were as follows:

1) Many granules with the same morphologic characteristics as those seen in the Langerhans' cells in the epidermis were noticed in the histiocytic cells.

2) These Langerhans' granules were observed by the inclination method of the sample. In some inclination angle this granule showed the linear or granular arrangement with periodicities. The inter-nal structures of the granules were also discussed.

3) As the origin of the Langerhans' granules, although it was strongly suggested that they might be developed from the Golgi apparatus, the possibility that they might be made by the invagination of the cell membrane could not be denied.

4) The desmosome-like structures were noticed between the histiocytic cells in contact.

5) The nature of the histiocytic cells in the skin eruptions in the eosinophilic granuloma of the bone was regarded as of the same characteristics as those in the Letterer-Siwe's disease and Hand-Schuller-Christian's disease.
