  • Look Inside

A 17-year-old male developed a sudden hearing loss and tinnitus in his left ear about a week after he had chickenpox. On examination, the external audi-tory canal and the tympanic membrame were nor-mal bilaterally, but audiograms showed left severe sensorineural hearing loss indicating of cochlear origin. As the treatment, only vitamins were ad-ministered and the hearing loss improved mainly in the high frequencies. This improvement was consid-ered to be rather spontaneous. As the mechanism of hearing loss, viral endolymphatic labyryinthis was suggested.
