Neurofibromatosis 1 is an equivalent to von Recklinghausen's disease and characterized by cafe-au-lait spots, Lisch nodule and multiple skin neu-rofibromas. The hallmark of neurofibromatosis 2 is bilateral acoustic tumors. Clinical manifestations of 30 cases with bilateral acoustic tumors were evaluated from the view of subclassification of neurofibromatosis 1 and 2. Lisch nodules were observed in two of thirty cases. Fourteen cases demonstrated both cafe-au-lait spots and cutaneous neurofibromas. Three cases e .hibited characteristics of multiple neurilemmomatosis. Thus there is a heterogeneity in neurofibromatosis 2 even if it is genetically and clinically different from neurofi-bromatosis 1.
