ムンプスウイルスが原因と考えられた小児前庭神経炎症例

A case of pediatric vestibular neuritis caused by mumps virus

はじめに

　小児のめまいは成人の1％程度の有病率^1）とされる。そのなかでも，前庭神経炎が占める割合は20％ほど^2,3）であることから，小児前庭神経炎は稀な疾患と考えられる。前庭神経炎の病因としてウイルス感染が一因と考えられているが，ウイルス感染が証明された症例は多くはなく，ムンプス感染が小児前庭神経炎の原因とされる症例は今までに報告はない。今回，ムンプス感染症が原因と考えられた小児前庭神経炎症例を経験したので報告する。

　Here we report a case of pediatric vestibular neuritis caused by a mumps virus infection. An 8-year-old boy with symptoms such as dizziness and bilateral submandibular gland swelling was admitted to our hospital. His audiogram was normal：thus, he was diagnosed with acute mumps infection and vestibular neuritis associated with the infection.

　Vestibular neuritis results from damage to the vestibular nerve caused by a viral infection. In this case, the mumps virus may infect only the vestibular nerve without infecting the inner ear, thereby causing vestibular neuritis.
